Stunning Encore Screenings at Westlands

Published : 02/Mar/2017

With Westlands were are excited to be able to offer residents of South Somerset and beyond even more diverse programming through events like our Screenings – which are entirely new to the team here at The Octagon and Westlands!

Starting in March, we’ve been working with Flaming Lassie to bring you the most exciting screenings and interactive events. The first event on 29th March is one of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty which is an encore screening of the Royal Opera House’s latest production. This is followed by an encore screening of Madama Butterfly, also from the Royal Opera House, on 2nd April. The rest of the Royal Opera House encore screenings are comprised on George Balanchine’s stunning Jewels on 16th April, a celebration of the work of Frederick Ashton The Dream, Symphonic Variations, Marguerite and Armand on 11 June, and Verdi’s Otello – with the charming Jonas Kaufman making his role debut – on 2 July.

Musically, we are delighted that we will be screening one of the world’s most famous and talented orchestras live on 9 June. Live from Berlin we wil be scxreening the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Gustavo Dudamel as they perform John Adam’s City Noir and Dvorák’s From The New World.

For theatre fans we have a fantastic encore screening of the critically acclaimed Vaudeville Theatre’s production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest starring David Suchet as the infamous Lady Bracknell.

As well as these screenings we are also excited to be working with Where West Begins to present several interactive screenings which involve films on screen with a brief talk and Q&A session with an invited guest. On 21 May Anil Gupta (producer of The Office, Goodness Gracious Me and Citizen Khan) will be discussing his favourite film The Producers after the film has been screened. Actor Olivia Williams (Sixth Sense, The Halcyon) will then be discussing her favourite book and film, To Kill A Mockingbird, after a screening on 4 June. Bruton’s Youth Cinema Foundation and Castaway Theatre Group will be following a screening of the children’s classic Bugsy Malone on 18 June with workshops and performances.

With all these interesting events available why not book to see a screening at your local entertainment venue?
