Christmas Tree 2018
posted 30 Nov 2018

At Westlands on Tuesday 4th December, audiences will share a very special evening with award-winning singer songwriter Hazel O’Connor, featuring a rare screening of the digitally re-mastered uncut version of the film ‘Breaking Glass’, followed by an intimate Q&A session and live performance of some of the film’s best loved songs. The 1980 film also starred Phil Daniels, Jim Broadbent and Jonathan Pryce. Hazel was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and the album spent 38 weeks in the chart and was certified ‘Gold’. The event is sure to be a great celebration of her music and the iconic film.

Looking ahead with the ‘Back to the 80s Big Christmas Party’ on Saturday 15th December (sold out), we’ve added another 80s party on Saturday 22nd December. Tickets are already selling fast for the 22nd so don’t miss out on the biggest 80s party in town. With a DJ playing all your favourite 80’s hits and live music from the brilliant 80's Glam Rock, bad boys of Rock 'n' Roll, Snakebyte. With balloons, confetti and plenty of Christmas spirit we are ready to party!

If you would like something a little bit quieter and calmer to get you in the festive mood then you may enjoy our ‘Christmas Celebration’ at Westlands on Sunday 16th December. The Octagon Choir will be joined by The Octagon Tappers, Ilchester Community Primary School and Holy Trinity Church School in a joyous celebration of all things Christmas at this festive Christmas celebration event.  With favourite Christmas songs and carols old and new to look forward to, and great tap routines, it is sure to put a smile on your face. The concert will raise funds for The Foyer Club and Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance. It will also be compered by BBC Somerset’s Claire Carter. With special guests from The Octagon pantomime, the concert is sure to put you in the festive spirit.

Another festive treat to look forward to is our screening of Simon Callow in Charles Dicken’s masterpiece ‘A Christmas Carol’ on Tuesday 11th December at Westlands. Based on Charles Dickens’s own performance adaptation, Simon Callow and director-designer Tom Cairns have created a one-man theatrical extravaganza of festive storytelling that is both heart-warming and deeply moving. Following critically acclaimed, sold-out theatre seasons in 2011, 2012 and again in 2016, Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love) returns to wow audiences with this tour de force performance, reimagined especially for cinema. A Christmas must see!
