Heritage Talk: Louisa's Perspective - The Diaries of Louisa Harris 1887 - 1920

Heritage Talk: Louisa's Perspective - The Diaries of Louisa Harris 1887 - 1920

In 2001, the South Somerset Heritage Collection was bequeathed a series of small A5 notebooks. These were the diaries of Louisa Harris, who lived in Clarence Street, Yeovil.

From the age of 25, Louisa observed daily life and national events, but also from the perspective of a wheel chair user and a changing role for ladies in society.

Join Heritage Co-Ordinator, Joseph Lewis as we see through Louisa’s eyes on 50 years of Queen Victoria’s Reign Celebrations and the end of the First World War in Yeovil, family connections to the Petter and Edgar ironmongery business, the origin of Westland and Leonardo Helicopters and “getting to Ninesprings for the first time, after thinking this was impossible.”

The talk will have an opportunity to purchase an edited copy of Louisa Harris’ Diary “A Picture of Life in Yeovil” by Jean Harper for a donation.

Tickets: £8.00

A £1.50 ticket levy is included in all stated ticket prices.
All bookings are subject to a £2 transaction Fee.
