2025 marks 200 years of commercial railways in Great Britain with September commemorating 200 years of the opening of the Stockton to Darlington Railway.
Join Heritage Co-Ordinator Joseph Lewis as we ‘board’ the special Heritage line for a tour through railway links in Yeovil and South Somerset from the Heritage Collection. From one of the oldest railway tickets in 1853 to one of the last tickets issues in the mid-1960s out to Langport West via Yeovil Town Station, Joseph traces the development of the railways, with a focus on the Hendford, Town Station and Pen Mill section.
We will also look at the companies that flourished as a result of the railways, including Aplin & Barrett, Clothier Giles & Co Glove Company and Westland Aircraft. The talk will feature related railway items from the South Somerset Heritage Collection and reproduced railway tickets for ‘boarding!’
Tickets: £8.00
A £1.50 ticket levy is included in all stated ticket prices.
All bookings are subject to a £2 transaction Fee.
