2026 marks 100 years of the Seaton-Petter car and 40 years since the G-Lynx set a helicopter speed record of 249.10mph on August 1986. A record which still stands!
Join Heritage Co-Ordinator, Joseph Lewis as he places this incredible achievement in the context of the birth of Petter and stationary engines, the making of sea planes under license in the First World War to the first flight over Mount Everest achieved by a Westland Aircraft. See how this provided a platform for the Lysander and making Spitfire and Seafire in the Second World War through to the development of the early helicopters like the Dragonfly and Widgeon to Yeovil being the Home of British Helicopters today.
